Workflow · Step 03 · Incubation

Every incubation stage, linked to the sample.

Record the incubator, selected temperature and duration for each plate. BioTrends EM® links these parameters with the operator and start time, preserving a traceable history through single-stage or two-stage incubation.

01 — Intake

Identify plates before starting incubation.

Scan an individual plate or a closed transfer container to retrieve the samples ready for incubation. BioTrends EM® checks that the scanned item is eligible for the selected stage and alerts the operator if it is not. Scanning a closed container records incubation for all the plates it contains.

STARTING INCUBATION
01Select the incubator, temperature and duration.
02Scan a plate or a closed transfer container.
03The system checks eligibility for the selected stage.
04Incubation details, operator and start time are recorded for each plate.

02 — INCUBATION STAGES

Single-stage or two-stage incubation.

Support the incubation sequence required by your procedure. Two-stage workflows can include an intermediate reading or a single final reading after the second stage.

SINGLE INCUBATION

One stage, followed by reading.

Record the selected incubator, temperature and duration for a single incubation stage, then proceed to colony counting.

INCUBATION 1

Record the first stage.

Capture the first incubation stage with its own incubator, temperature, duration and start time. Proceed to an intermediate reading or directly to the second incubation stage, according to the procedure.

INCUBATION 2

Complete the second stage.

Record the second stage against the same plate, preserving both stages in its history. Then proceed to the second reading or a single final reading, according to the workflow.

03 — INCUBATION RECORDS

Keep parameters and changes traceable.

Each plate retains the incubator identifier, selected temperature and duration, operator and incubation start time. Changes to incubation durations and temperatures are recorded in dedicated audit-trail categories, with the responsible user and timestamp.

04 — MEDIA REPLACEMENT

Replace media before incubation starts.

If a problem occurs during sampling, authorized users can replace the assigned media while the PDA is online and before incubation begins. Each replacement is recorded in the audit trail. Once incubation has started, the media replacement function is no longer available.

What happens next

From incubation to colony counting.

Scan each plate to record its colony count against the original sampling point and applicable limits.
